Passenger Activity Up in 2018 – Highest in a Decade

TULSA, OK – February 8, 2019 – Passenger activity increased by 6.4% in 2018, making last year the busiest year in a decade.  Altogether 3,146,538 passengers arrived and departed from TUL with July and September seeing the biggest increase in activity over the prior year.

Tulsa International Airport Interim CEO, Alexis Higgins, credits the increase in activity to the community’s support of the FlyTulsa campaign and the airlines’ commitment to expand air service. “Tulsa area businesses have been a key contributor to the success of the FlyTulsa campaign. We had nearly 50 area companies pledge to fly from Tulsa versus driving to surrounding airports – that support generates demand and demonstrates to our airline partners that we support their investment in Tulsa.”

Airline capacity increased in 2018 with Frontier Airlines return to the Tulsa market with new service to Denver and seasonal service to San Diego, Orlando, San Jose, San Antonio, and Washington, D.C. Via Air also launched service in Tulsa with nonstop flights to Austin. In addition to passenger activity, cargo activity for the year increased by 12.31%.

There have already been two big air service announcements for 2019 that will support continued passenger growth at the airport.  American Airlines begins nonstop service to Los Angeles (LAX) in April, and Allegiant Airlines recently announced they are adding new nonstop service to Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport beginning in June.
