FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

TULSA, Oklahoma – March 14, 2024 – Tulsa International Airport, in its continuous effort to enhance passenger experience, is thrilled to announce a partnership with the local favorite children’s museum, Discovery Lab. This collaboration introduces a state-of-the-art exhibit area within the airport terminal, specifically designed to entertain, engage, and educate young travelers. This new amenity is opening just in time for the airport’s busy Spring Break season, as the airport expects to see approximately 114,000 passengers flying through TUL between March 15th-24th.

The new family space, designed and built by Discovery Lab, features innovative play structures that are versions of Discovery Lab exhibits. The museum will change pieces and exhibits of the new play area regularly, ensuring that kids always have something fun and new to see.

The Discovery Lab play area is now open between Gates B7 & B9 and is accessible to passengers during all hours at no additional cost.

Alexis Higgins, Chief Executive Officer of Tulsa Airports Improvement Trust expressed excitement about the partnership, stating, “We’re committed to making Tulsa International Airport not just a gateway to destinations but a memorable part of passengers’ trips. Collaborating with Discovery Lab allows us to offer our youngest passengers a unique opportunity to learn through play or burn some energy, making families’ wait time more enjoyable.”

“We are honored to celebrate the opening of the Discovery Lab exhibit at Tulsa International Airport. This exhibit offers a much-needed space for children and families to unwind and learn between flights,” said Ray Vandiver, Ph.D., Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer at Discovery Lab. “At Discovery Lab, we recognize the importance of providing dedicated spaces for children and their caregivers, and we hope it inspires them to visit our museum and continue learning.”

The new Discovery Lab Play area is just one of several major projects within Tulsa International Airport’s multi-year growth plan. Learn more about the other projects at http://www.propeltul.com.

About Discovery Lab: Discovery Lab has been igniting the curiosity of children since 2007, initially as a museum without walls. In May 2013, Discovery Lab opened their first walls in the Owen Park Recreation Center, seeing over 130,000 children and families each year including nearly 30,000 through outreach. In early 2022, the Museum opened a 57,000-square-foot world-class facility in Gathering Place park that has been transformative for Tulsa’s children and families. With a maze of tunnels, a slide made of packing tape, science demos, and so much more, Discovery Lab is a place where kids and families can make, learn, explore and design things using real stuff in new ways.
