TULSA, OK – October 13, 2022 – Tulsa Airports Improvement Trust (TAIT), who manages and operates Tulsa International Airport and Tulsa Riverside Airport, has announced an update to the Tulsa Riverside Airport’s master planning process currently in progress.

The master plan is the main long-term planning document used by airports to provide a framework for growth at an airport. It identifies the development needs at individual airports based on forecasts of aviation activity, the potential environmental effects, community compatibility, and financial feasibility. The goal of the master plan is to guide future airport development that is cost-effective and satisfies the needs of the airport, the market, and the community, while also balancing environmental and socioeconomic impacts. All airports are required by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to conduct master plan studies in order to meet FAA grant assurances.

At the second public meeting, held on September 13, 2022 at Tulsa Technology Center – Riverside Campus, four master plan alternatives were presented for consideration and public feedback. After receiving public feedback and continued discussion amongst TAIT’s Board of Trustees and leadership, Alternative 2, which presented an option of expanding Tulsa Riverside Airport’s main runway 900 feet to the south across 91st Street, is no longer under consideration.

TAIT determined that due to the cost of the proposed extension, along with the public feedback received on the proposal, Alternative 2 was not a viable option moving forward.

The master planning process will proceed with the other alternatives continuing to be discussed. A third and final public meeting presenting the selected alternative will be held in the coming months.
