TULSA, OKLA – April 24, 2026 – Tulsa International Airport (TUL) hosted its 2nd annual “Ready for Takeoff” event this afternoon, offering individuals and families the opportunity to practice the airport experience in a calm, supportive environment designed to ease travel-related stress or uncertainty.
The event was especially helpful for families with loved ones on the autism spectrum or who are neurodivergent but was free and open to all. Participants received step-by-step guidance from airport staff as they moved through the ticketing and check-in process, TSA security screening, and boarding gate procedures, mirroring a typical travel day.
“We know that for many travelers an airport can be an overwhelming place,” said Stephanie Chester, Director of Marketing and Customer Engagement at Tulsa International Airport. “Ready for Takeoff gave families the confidence to travel with greater ease and also educated them on the free accessibility services we offer every day here at TUL.”
The event also featured an informative resource fair, where participants connected with local organizations offering support and services for neurodiverse individuals and their families. Participating organizations included: TSA Cares, Department of Rehabilitation, Job Connection, LLC, Down Syndrome Association of Tulsa, and Happy Hands Education Center.
In addition to the airport rehearsal experience and resource connections, families learned about TUL’s growing range of accessibility features, including the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Lanyard Program, Sensory Room, Quiet Room, and other inclusive amenities that make the airport experience smoother for all travelers.
